Picnic Nuptuals

We love original weddings! It's fun for us to pair menu items with the theme in addition to decorating the buffet. This picnic theme really worked for the bride and for the venue too; it was in a beautiful backyard in Highland.

On the menu were our signature pulled pork sliders with optional "angry onions"...

...mini potato bites with an herbed cheese spread...

I just love the signage we made for this wedding!

...handmade meatballs with three different sauces: lemon-thyme cream sauce, chimichurri, and a southwestern sauce...

It was fun for the guests to come back several times and try a different sauce with each visit!

...and we made a new appetizer, Italian bites with marinara dipping sauce.

These Italian bites are filled with melty mozzarella cheese.

For drinks we served our Brazillian Mojito in individual milk bottles. It fit so well with the Bride's theme!

This was an interesting decorating task. Picnics are very causal: eating on blankets, serving drinks out of coolers, etc. However, weddings are on the opposite end of the spectrum. We decided to display the various finger foods on long buffet tables, and incorporated little picnic touches: daisies in mason jars, wooden crates, picnic basket, and burlap.

Congratulations to the bride and groom! We sure loved being a part of your celebration.

Healthy Options

Catering food doesn't have to be so rich and sugary that it leaves you feeling sick afterwards. That sounds more like an inexperienced chef obscuring the flavor rather than the ingredients speaking for themselves. Food should leave you satisfied and feeling good! We recently catered a business luncheon with a spread of healthy options.

Chef Lou catered for a meeting of health care professionals. She wanted to provide healthier food- and smaller portion- options and escape the food coma that sometimes rears it's ugly head after a meal.

On the Menu

First in line was a choice of two sliders: chunky turkey with cranberry sauce and caramelized onions or warm beef tenderloin with a creamy dill sauce. Each slider was on a whole wheat Kaiser knot with a multi-grain sprinkle.

These rolls were handmade earlier that morning.

Next in line was one of our newest appetizers: the Southwestern Sweet Potato Cake. This delicious morsel has a warm sweet potato cake topped with black beans, roasted corn, red peppers, and scallions with a dollop of lime creme fraiche and spinach chiffonade. Chef Lou loves to create new and flavorful appetizers!

Our green salad came next. This salad featured fresh green lettuce, ripe mango chunks, roasted almonds, and bleu cheese with a Mango coconut dressing. The salad was served individually in coconut shells... and we may or may not have had a business man take two halves, clap them together and quote lines from Monty Python and the Holy Grail...

Chef Lou will never serve Ranch dressing with your salad (unless specifically requested). Rather, she prefers to create her own delicious dressings that complement your salad. Whenever possible she tries to make the most out of your food and really bring out the flavors.

Who says those on a diet can't have dessert? Chef Lou has proved them wrong with this alteration of a Savory classic. We served a quadruple fresh berry mix with fat-free and sugar-free cream. Our berries are always fresh (frozen berries are a dirty word at Savory) and the cream was fresh and chilled. Guests were able to eat and enjoy their entire serving.

One of the benefits of hiring a professional and trained Chef is that you can get menus customized to your wants and needs! Don't settle for less, hire the best.

10 Reasons to Choose Savory for Your Caterer... part 2

If you missed items 10-6 on this list, review them here: 10 Reasons to Choose Savory for Your Caterer...part 1

5. Since we're a small company we treat you like our friend and not a number.

Trust us, we're not the DMV. Our Chef gets to know each person and create a relationship with every one of our customers. We give our customers our full attention and strive to make your event our best one yet.

4. You are not confined to a set menu

Our Chef does not like to force you to choose between "option 1" or "option 2". We want this event to be full of foods YOU like. Sometimes we'll go through many revisions of your menu before we find the perfect combination. The possibilities are endless: s'mores bar, home-made root beer, entire roasted pig, mocktails, and so much more!

Our hand-made Kaiser knot sliders come in so many different varieties: sausage, turkey bacon avocado, beef tenderloin, pulled pork, turkey cranberry, etc.
We went out of the box and created this fun frothy blue raspberry mocktail for a baby shower. We love to find new and exciting ideas on pinterest!

3.  Our food is hand-made with fresh ingredients

Since we hand-make about 90% of all our food and only use the freshest ingredients, our food is better tasting. Our Chef makes the extra effort to ensure that you are served the best food. Cutting corners is NOT an option! Don't ever mention using "Cool Whip" as a quick replacement...

Hand-made chicken stock is worlds better than the flavored water in the grocery store they call "chicken stock".

2. Our customers love us

We have heard many times that this is the "best food I've tasted at a reception!" Food plays a major role in any event and we want to help make the event memorable and enjoyable. Here are what some of our other customers have said:
"[It] exceeded my expectations" -Daphni P.
"We wanted to thank you for being part of our special day - we could not have asked for a more lovely reception! You were such a huge part of our day and we are so pleased with how well the food turned out! Your set-up and presentation was absolutely gorgeous and worked so well with our theme! Thank you for your attention to detail and your eye for perfection and beauty! I can't even begin to tell you how many compliments we got on your food!" -Jenelle S.
"Thank you for your AMAZING food provided to our group while visiting Stewart Mountain lodging." -Dan W.

1. A classically trained Chef passionate about quality and having a "depth of flavor"

Our Chef's mantra is "Life is too short or ordinary food." She has a passion for food that is unrivaled and as such she is adamant about quality and flavor. She regularly creates great flavor combinations; ones that reach your five tastes and spans a variety of textures and flavors so that it changes the way you experience food.

Celebrating 80 years

No, the title does not refer to how old Savory is or any of it's employees, but rather it's because we recently catered an 80th birthday celebration.

We served handmade mango salsa with corn and guacamole tortilla chips

Delicious guava and coconut parfaits with pound cake crumbles and a cookie tuile

In keeping with the color scheme we had blueberry flavored water

A display table was set up highlighting some of his achievements and accomplishments

Happy 80th Vern!

I loved working with this bride, she is sophisticated, classy and girlie. She designed a fun design around black, white and yellow. There were lots of crystal chandeliers, black and white damask patterns, beautiful yellow roses, white lights and crystal elements.

She planned on 400 people, a buffet-style that had lots of options to keep people satisfied.
